On this date in Chicago Blackhawks history,

On January 8, 1988 Steve Thomas collected his first of four career hat tricks with the Chicago Blackhawks at Chicago Stadium.  Exactly one year and one day to the date that Al Secord recorded a hat trick against the same team (Toronto Maple Leafs) in the same Stadium.

The irony is that Steve Thomas was aquired for Al Secord and Ed Olczyk in September of 1987.  Thomas scored 110 goals in 334 games played with the Blackhawks, but I have to be honest I never liked Thomas because it was his potential that the Hawks traded away my favorite player in Secord. Thomas scored over 900 points in his career but only had one really good season in a Hawks jersey in 1989-90 when he tallied 40 goals for the Blackhawks. His first stint lasted until 1991 when he was traded away for Brent Sutter.

Let’s Go Hawks!!
