Blackhawks Open Season With 2-0 Start In Phoenix

The Chicago Blackhawks took the win in Phoenix Sunday 6-4, capping off the opening weekend with a 2-0 start. The Blackhawks continue to get production from their top scores, with Hossa scoring 2 goals bringing his season total to 4.

Dave Bolland was among the other scores on Sunday sending in 2 goals and capturing an assist. Patrick Sharp, and Viktor Stalberg were the other two goal scores for the Hawks collecting one goal.

The Blackhawks scored on the power play, but continue to show their penalty kill as their strong suit on special teams. They killed 3 penalties Sunday, bringing their total to 8/8 in killing penalties for the season.

Although showing struggles at points in the game, Ray Emery walked out of Phoenix with the win Sunday stopping 25 shots in 29 attempts. Phoenix goaltender Mike Smith saw 31 shots, but only stopped 25 bringing his goals against average to 5.04 on the season.

The Blackhawks have scored 11 goals in 2 games with 9 of the 11 coming from players on the first 2 lines, showing the playmakers for the Blackhawks have come to play this season. Marian Hossa after the brutal hit in Phoenix last year has brought his total goals this season up to 4, while only tallying 1 assist bringing his point total to 5 this season which leads the team.

The Blackhawks travel home to play the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday in their home opener. That games scheduled puck drop is slated for 7:30 p.m.
