The NHL announced it’s three stars for the week and a familiar face was named #1 Star.
Congrats to Patrick Kane who received the #1 star for this past week. Kane led all NHL players with 5 goals scored and he threw in an assist too. Kane is off to the hottest start of his career with 9 goals and 10 assists in the first 12 games of the shortened season. A lot of people got excited for last night’s goal from a bad angle, if Kane keeps scoring from that spot they may just name that type of goal the Kaner. The NHL highlight package for the three stars can be found here.
The first goal of the week was the game winner in San Jose which he buried after Toews stole the puck. Kane finished the scoring in the 5-3 win with an empty net goal. In the Phoenix Coyotes game Kane netted two goals in the total destruction of last season nemesis. Kane has been spectacular in open ice which seems to be the normal this season throughout the Western Conference.
The 2nd star was given to Jamie Benn of the Dallas Stars for his two game winning goals this week. The Blackhawks didn’t face Benn in Dallas earlier this year but his signing after holding out was announced during the Hawks comeback victory.
Future Hall of Fame goalie Martin Brodeur picked up the third star by going 3-0 for the week while helping the New Jersey Devils beat rivals New York Rangers and Pittsburgh Penguins and he also picked up a win against the Tampa Lighning. Brodeur isn’t playing like a 40 year old with a record of 6-1-2 this season.
Kane joins teammate Corey Crawford as Blackhawks that have received weekly stars by the NHL so far this year. Congrats to Kaner and keep up the torrid pace!!
