If the Hawks were to make a trade it will be for a center. Here are our top 3 centers that could be available for the Hawks at the trade deadline, now these may not be very possible or probable, but one thing that is for certain Stan Bowman will not overpay and the youth of the system will not be on a parade out the door just to add a piece to the puzzle.
1. Jarome Iginla–Calgary We mention it because he always gets mentioned seemingly every year but he never leaves the Flames roster! This rumor is almost silly because he makes too much money and even though he’s a scorer he’s not getting any younger at age 35. Of all the players mentioned being traded to Chicago to add to the center position Ignla is the oldest and most expensive option. One thing about Ignla is he wins face-offs at a 50 percent clip, he currently has 9 goals and 13 assists and a -7 rating. I see this as a 1% or less chance of this happening not because of the price tag but because of Iginla’s huge loyalty.
2. Mike Ribeiro–Washington His availability will mainly depend on whether the Capitals think it’s time to throw in the towel for the season or do they think they can make a run in the Eastern Conference. This is a viable option because Ribeiro has an expiring contract but at what price? What would the Capitals want from the Hawks for this to become reality? The drawback of Ribeiro is he struggles at the face-offs circle which I guess fits in with the rest of the current Hawks centers,as he wins face-offs at a 42 percent clip. He currently has 10 goals 24 assists and a -2 rating. I see this as a 22 percent option.
3. Derek Roy–Dallas Roy is the youngest and cheapest option and is the final year of his 6 year contract. Roy isn’t bad at the faceoff circle at 47 percent rate while scoring 3 goals and 13 assists with a +5 rating. I like his toughness and with the ability to score and anchor a successful line. The Stars are in the middle of a pack of possible playoff teams at the bottom of the Western Conference. Brenden Morrow, Jaromir Jagr, and Roy are all UFA’s so it could be not until the last minute that the Stars decide to buyers or sellers. Chance 17 percent option.
What do you think? Could you foresee any of these players in a Blackhawks uniform?
