On This Date in Chicago Blackhawks history,

On March 29, 1970 Tony Esposito collected his 15th shutout of the season when he blanked the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-0. The 15 shutouts set a modern day record that has only been approached by Dominik Hasek who had 13 with the Buffalo Sabres in 1997-1998.

The Hawks finished first in the East in 1970 and went on to sweep the Detroit Red Wings in the first round of the playoffs but were then swept by the Boston Bruins in the East finals.

Esposito is tied for 9th all-time with 76 shutouts with another former Blackhawks goalie Eddie Belfour. Martin Brodeur is the current all-time shutout leader with 120 career shutouts, but on this date 43 years ago Tony Esposito collected a regular season record 15th shutout.
