One team showed up for the early afternoon affair in Detroit and one was still hiding Easter Eggs.  The Chicago Blackhawks blitzed the Detroit Red Wings with 3 very quick goals in the first period and the game was history seemingly before it had started.

On the 85th birthday of Gordie Howe the Red Wings looked like they were still sleeping when Jeremy Morin on his first shift since being recalled from Rockford muscled in a loose puck and the onslaught was about to begin. Brandon Saad who was featured on NHL.com scored twice and had an assist as the young Hawks dominated the Red Wings in the last regular season game at Joe Louis Arena between the two franchises as division foes.

Jonathan Toews had a goal and 2 assists and Dave Bolland after a terrible game Friday night got a lucky bounce goal that was shot in by a Red Wing defender then scored a short-handed goal to hopefully get him going back to the level of play he should be at this time of year.

Corey Crawford only gave up one goal in the last minute of the game, he made some good stops but wasn’t tested too much during the entire contest.  It seems like it’s feast or famine with the goals lately but it was great to see the youth of the team step up in the likes of Saad, Morin, and Jimmy Hayes.

The most surprising part of the boxscore in a 7-1 game is that Patrick Kane‘s 8 game point streak came to an end Sunday.  The goals were coming fast and furious and on a holiday it was a good time to be watching the game with friends as the Hawks kept pouring in the goals.

With the win and the play of Morin don’t be shocked if the Hawks give Marian Hossa and Patrick Sharp Monday night off against the Predators.  The puck drops at 7:30 at the United Center tomorrow night. Hopefully the Hawks saved some goals for Nashville!

A Blowout against the Red Wings is always a good day to be a Hawks fan!
