If the playoffs started today for the second straight day it would be the Columbus Blue Jackets playing the Chicago Blackhawks in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs, Columbus got a huge win in San Jose last night which included a game winning goal by Ryan Johansen goal with a 1:30 left in the game to decide the contest.

Here is a look at last night’s playoff picture games

Columbus Blue Jackets-4 San Jose Sharks-3

LA Kings-4 Dallas Stars-3 OT

Calgary Flames-4 Minnesota Wild-1

Colorado Avalanche-5 St Louis Blues-4

Not getting the extra point in overtime wasn’t very advantageous for the Stars and the Wild are dropping  games nightly and now are tied with the Blue Jackets at the #8 spot but currently hold the tie-breaker. Here are all the teams with possible 8th seed landing spots

6. St Louis Blues-54 points 3 games remaining

7. Minnesota Wild-51 points -3 games remaining

8. Columbus Blue Jackets-51 points-2 games remaining

Outside Looking In

-Detroit Red Wings-48 points-4 games remaining

-Dallas Stars-48 points-3 games remaining

-Phoenix Coyotes-46 points-4 games remaining

Everyone has at least one game at hand over the Blue Jackets which made Sunday night’s win so huge for them.  The Stars really needed the extra point in overtime against the Kings to give themselves a real shot but anything is possible.  The Blues had their chance at clinching a playoff spot and couldn’t get pass the Av’s.

Today’s playoff picture game is as follows:

Phoenix at Detroit- Both teams need two points badly without giving up any points to the other franchise.  Detroit is trying to extend it’s 21 consecutive years of making the playoffs and a loss to the Coyotes at home could put an end to their playoff dreams.
