The 8th seed for the third straight day is the Columbus Blue Jackets.  Things could start getting scrambled starting tonight but first let’s look at last night playoff implication games.

St Louis Blues-3 Colorado Avalanche-1 The Blues clinch a playoff spot with the win and now maybe the last game of the season against the Hawks won’t be a headhunting match.

Minnesota Wild-2 Los Angeles Kings-1  A huge win by the Wild who scored twice in the first period and then held on for the rest of the game for a win they had to have to stay ahead of the playoff pack.

Dallas Stars-2 San Jose Sharks-3 The Stars gave up two third period goals and the lead in a game they needed badly.  The loss almost seals their fate which most experts thought was sealed at the trading deadline.

The current standings are as follows:

5. San Jose Sharks 57 with 2 games remaining

6. St. Louis Blues 56 with 2 games remaining

7. Minnesota Wild 53 with 2 games remaining

8. Columbus Blue Jackets 51 with 2 games remaining

On the outside of the playoff picture

– Detroit-50 points with 2 games remaining

-Dallas 48 with 2 games remaining

-Phoenix with 46 points and 3 games remaining

Wednesday’s playoff implication games

Los Angeles Kings at Detroit Red Wings- The Kings are in the playoffs while the Red Wings need to get 2 points at Joe Louis Arena to stay in the playoff picture.

San Jose Sharks at Phoenix Coyotes- The Coyotes need two points in each of their last 3 games and need some help to make the playoffs.
