For the third straight day a different team has taken over the #8 seed in the Western Conference. If the playoffs started today the Minnesota Wild would be the 8th seed, but the Wild have two games left to play while all the remaining playoff hopeful teams are down to their last game of the season.
Last night’s playoff implication games.
Detroit Red Wings-5 Nashville Predators-2 The Predators really gave it their all by not starting Pekka Rinne and starting Chris Mason instead. The Red Wings have gotten hot at the right time and in less than a week have gone from outside the playoffs looking in to the #7 seed in the West.
Columbus Blue Jackets-3 Dallas Stars-1 The Blue Jackets scored two power play goals in the third period to break a 1-1 tie and keep their playoff hopes alive. The Stars with the loss now have missed the playoffs for 5 straight seasons.
Current Standings for 8th place
7. Detroit Red Wings 54 points 1 game remaining
8. Minnesota Wild-53 points 2 games remaining
On the Outside Looking in
Columbus Blue Jackets-53 points 1 game remaining
Edmonton Oilers visit Minnesota Wild- The Wild need two points and they get to play a team that is 1-10 in their last 11 games. If the Wild lose they can go straight to the mirror and look at the reason they don’t qualify for the playoffs.
Who are you rooting for tonight?
