The NHL made the official announcement this morning that Brandon Saad is a Calder trophy finalist along with Jonathan Huberdeau and Brendan Gallagher.
Saad after a slow start statistically turned it on at the end of the shortened season to get his name considered for the rookie of the year trophy. Saad ended the season with 10 goals 17 assists and a plus rating of +17.
Huberdeau is considered the favorite for the award after scoring 14 goals and 17 assists for the Florida Panthers, but one thing to look at was his -14 rating.
Saad was an important piece on the top line for the best team in the NHL and that should be the biggest reason for Saad to be the first Calder winner by a Blackhawk since Patrick Kane in 2008.
What do you think? Can Saad upset Huberdeau for the Calder?
