After having his name floated around late Saturday and Sunday before the NHL draft, Nick Leddy on Wednesday signed a 2 year contract with undisclosed terms. Leddy is only 22 years old and now has a 2 year contract that Stan Bowman had promised shortly after the Blackhawks had won the Stanley Cup.

Leddy had 6 goals and 12 assists in the shortened 2013 season with a much improved +15.  During the playoffs, Leddy seemed to find the Joel Quenneville‘s doghouse especially in the Stanley Cup Finals. Leddy finished the playoffs with 0 goals 2 assists and a minus 8 rating.

One of the areas that Leddy looks ready to take over is one of the point men on the Blackhawks first unit powerplay.  Duncan Keith may be the best defensive player that the Hawks have but he really doesn’t always belong on the point during the first unit powerplay and the Hawks powerplay stats prove that something needs to change. Leddy has tremendous speed and a very good shot and deserves the special team time when the season kicks off in October.

Stan Bowman’s Checklist is getting closer to completion with 2 of the biggest tasks already complete!

1. Re-sign Bryan Bickell

2. Re-sign Nick Leddy

3. NEXT UP- sign Marcus Kruger

Leddy is a 22-year-old defenseman that has learned on the fly in the NHL for three years and now his best hockey is on the horizon and Bowman guaranteed that he will be wearing a Blackhawks jersey for at least the next two seasons!!

Nice job Stan!!
