The Blackhawks entered the season as the defending Stanley Cup Champions, but they had a new Captain in Pierre Pilote after former Captain Ed Litzenberger was traded to Detroit during the offseason.  The Blackhawks struggled most of the season but still were able to finish in 3rd place. They faced the Montreal Canadiens and for the second straight season they upset the heavily favored Canadiens 4-2 by winning four straight games after digging an 0-2 hole.  The Hawks faced the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 1962 Stanley Cup Finals, but they couldn’t work their magic one more time going down 0-2 and this time fell in the Finals 4-2 and were not able to repeat as Champions.
