60 Days Until Banner Raising (Photshop by Joe Kremel)

#60-No current or former Blackhawks have worn a sweater with the jersey #60

1959-1960 Chicago Blackhawks

Record-28-29-13

Goals-Bobby Hull (39)

Assists-Bobby Hull (42)

Penalty Minutes-Stan Mikita (119)

Wins- Glenn Hall (28)

Most people including myself believe the late 90’s and early 2000’s were the Dark ages of Chicago Blackhawks hockey, but the mid to late 50’s were almost just as bad with the Hawks missing the playoffs from 1953-1959 in a 6 team league.

After a sluggish start the 1959-1960 would break through and clinch that playoff spot.  Bobby Hull would win the Art Ross trophy for league’s top scorer and rookie Bill Hay would win the Calder trophy for his rookie campaign that included 18 goals 37 assists. It is amazing that in this era that Glenn Hall would start every game in between the pipes for season after season.

The playoffs were short and sweet with the Hawks giving the defending champ Montreal Canadiens fits in the first two games in Montreal before getting shut out in Games 3 and 4 in Chicago Stadium.  At the time no one could imagine that the Hawks were only one year away from hoisting the Stanley Cup.

#60 All-time in points- Ed Olczyk– Edzo had two stints with the Blackhawks at the very beginning and very end of his career.  Olczyk played in 322 career games wearing the Blackhawks sweater and he tallied 77 goals and 132 assists.  Most current fans know him as one of the voice of Chicago Blackhawks and NHL hockey on NBC which he’s one of the best in the business.

Only 60 days until the 2013 Stanley Cup Championship Banner gets lifted to the United Center rafters!
