Columbus Blue Jackets: Jack Johnson
Jack Johnson has become a standout blue-liner for the Blue Jackets, and he might be their next captain. After a trade that saw him move out of L.A. For Jeff Carter, Johnson emerged and proved he can be a top-pairing NHL defenseman, as well as a leader, all by the age of 24.
Johnson was signed to a seven-year extension in 2011, and his future with the Blue Jackets is concrete. Naming Johnson captain could be the next step in the future of the defenseman. With at least a decade left in Johnson’s career, and with the Blue Jackets nearly making the playoffs in 2013, making him their leader could signal the beginning of a new era in Ohio, one that sees constant improvement and success.
