The Blackhawks took to the ice on the campus of Notre Dame for the second consecutive day of training camp.  Here are some quick hits from today’s action.

-The biggest news seemed like a pretty big surprise to everyone covering training camp, when Jonathan Toews didn’t take to the ice for the first scrimmage of the day as scheduled.  Toews was a late scratch and will probably be out a couple of days with a lower body injury.  You would think they wouldn’t be so secretive when it’s only Blackhawks players and camp invitees playing.

-The good news of the day was Marian Hossa was cleared to participate for scrimmage and while participating in todays scrimmage he managed to score 2 goals in the process. A healthy Hossa which we probably never fully saw in the playoffs would be a welcome sight on October 1st.

-Brandon Pirri had a good day with a goal in the first scrimmage of the day. Reports were he was strong on faceoffs as well throughout his shifts on Friday.  Even though Brandon Saad was the day #1 topic for second line center, Pirri having a great camp could change minds.  I’m all for Saad playing wing and Pirri running the second line at center so I’m all for Pirri having a huge training camp.

-Brandon Bollig had a goal in the second scrimmage so he now has as many goals in the 2013 training camp as he does in his NHL career including playoffs.

-Drew LeBlanc picked up an assist and held his own during scrimmage. Where LeBlanc fits will probably be Rockford, but he has all of camp to make a huge splash.

-Patrick Sharp scored the first goal of the scrimmage against Corey Crawford, the good thing is that it was stick side!!
