What To Watch For this afternoon in Detroit.

– Youth- The Hawks lineup will be stacked with Rockford Ice Hogs that are trying to make their mark to crack a roster spot and impress the Blackhawks brass.  I’ts almost noon and tonight’s roster hasn’t been released, but seeing Mark McNeill and Phillip Danault would be nice since Tuesday’s nights game isn’t televised anywhere.

-Cementing Spots- Jimmy Hayes and Jeremy Morin have been pretty impressive in the preseason along with Ben Smith.  The three veterans from Rockford will be trying to cement spots on third and fourth lines when the puck drops on October 1st.

-Special Teams- The powerplay has been in “mid-season form” from the start looking inept as always.  The Hawks can win a Cup without a powerplay, but why would you not improve this facet of a team full of offensive talent.  The Penalty Kill has been fairly strong while the Hawks continue to audition players for Michael Frolik’s spot on the PK.

-Faceoffs- The Hawks have struggled in this area at times in the preseason and like the powerplay really shouldn’t be a weakeness. If Brandon Saad plays tonight I will be watching his work at faceoffs the most as he mounts his 2nd line center campaign.
