He’s not a top pairing D-man or part of a big trade during the summer, but Sheldon Brookbank has done his job by filling a hole in the Chicago Blackhawks defense whenever one of the top 6 needed a break. He was signed in the summer of 2012, waited for half of the season during the lockout, and played a little over half of the season for the Blackhawks in 2013. He scored 1 goal and 1 assist and was a minus-2.

Brookbank became a member of the Blackhawks at the right time. After playing 26 games in the regular season and only 1 in the postseason, Brookbank ended up hoisting the Stanley Cup on June 24. That’s a pretty great deal. He was one of 4 Blackhawks to end the season with a minus, coming in under Brandon Bollig with a minus-1 and above Drew LeBlanc with a minus-3 and Dave Bolland with a minus-7. He’s been keeping a low profile this summer, except for his day with the Stanley Cup, but that could also be because no one is really watching. He’s signed with the Blackhawks until the 2013-2014 season.

Prediction: Brookbank will score 1 goal and 5 assists in the 2013-2014 season. Are you taking the over or under?
