The Blackhawks wrapped up their preseason schedule with a victory over the Washington Captials. The Blackhawks had to go to overtime to finish off the Capitals. The final score was 4-3 Blackhawks. Goals were scored by Nick Leddy (2), Jimmy Hayes, and Andrew Shaw. Shaw scored the game winner in 1:47 into overtime. The Blackhawks finished their preseason slate with no injuries.

After the game, Coach Quenneville commented on the roster.

For now Jimmy Hayes and Ben Smith have done enough to stay on the Blackhawks roster.

At 10:46pm  on 9/28/13, the Blackhawks announced that they have assigned Jeremy Morin and Brandon Pirri to Rockford. The Blackhawks also sent Antti Raanta back down Rockford.  The Blackhawks roster is currently at 24 players and needs to be down to 23 players before Monday.  The team’s active roster now includes 13 forwards, nine defenseman, and two goal tenders.

Joakim Nordstrom, Ryan Stanton, and Michael Kostka figure to be battling for one spot left on the roster. Joakim Nordstrom should have the upper hand because he is a forward and not a defenseman. Coach Q wants to keep 8 defenseman, which means Kostka or Stanton is getting sent down to Rockford. We will look for the final cut on Sunday.

The Chicago Blackhawks open the season on Tuesday October 2nd at the United Center vs the Washington Capitals.
