It was on full display in the opening game of the 2013-2014 season. The penalty kill will struggle until someone steps up and takes Michael Frolik’s place. It is as simple as that. The real question is who is going to be that person to step into Frolik’s skates and stabilize this special unit. We saw last year how important Frolik was to correcting the penalty kill unit right in time for the playoffs. Now if i were speaking straight from the heart, Bolland would be at the top of this list, but after watching the Washington Capitals score with ease on the power play in the opener, my mind began to overpower my heart. There are 81 games left to see how this unit shakes out but it is already evident with the current penalty kill group that something is different and that is Frolik’s absence.
