Brandon Saad picked up right where he left off in the Stanley Cup Finals last season, and his elevated level of play makes him an easy pick for the Second Star of the week. Throughout the Blackhawks’ home opener, Saad looked to be on another level, and his play was that of an experienced player. Saad has gone as deep as one could go, and is only two games into his sophomore season in the NHL. Even though Saad took a backseat to the likes of Patrick Sharp and Jonathan Toews in the Blackhawks’ Stanley Cup run, he soaked up the experience like no other. It translated well, when Saad had a three-point night, (1 goal, 2 assists) in only 14:03 of  ice time in the season opener at the United Center.

Saad made Chicago fans remember just a few short months ago, when the depth of the team was winning them games, and eventually a championship. Adding a lucky goal off the stanchion against the Lightning proved that luck is earned. If the 20-year old can continue his production in a bottom-six role all season, the Blackhawks will prove they are contenders once again.
