Never Out Of The Game

Hopes of another ‘streak’ may be over, but the Blackhawks seem to have a knack for keeping themselves right in the thick of things all game long. In the five games played, Chicago has only been trailing for 5:07 seconds, a stat that is both extremely underrated and impressive. The two losses thus far have come from a shootout, and a late goal (22 seconds remaining) in the third. When the opposition takes the lead, Chicago answers right back, not trailing for more than two minutes at any point this year, and the Blackhawks haven’t given up a lead in two full games. Keeping everything down to a one-goal deficit at the most gives the Blackhawks the opportunity to jump right back into the game with just one shot, tying the score and gaining momentum. The ‘Hawks demonstrated this in their season opener against the Washington Capitals, giving up a goal with 14 minutes left, but rattling off three unanswered goals to win 6-4. As long as the Blackhawks continue to defend leads, and tie games quickly, they will be a huge powerhouse in the playoffs, where momentum is everything.
