It was only a matter of time before Brandon Pirri jumped into the Chicago Blackhawks’ lineup, and he is making his impression felt already. Blackhawks’ fans knew there were big things to come from the youngster, when he led the AHL in scoring last season. Training camp wasn’t a success for the 22-year old, as a good effort fell short, and Michal Handzus was the Blackhawks’ second-line center. However, spotty play by Joakim Nordstrom gave Pirri the chance, and he took it. Pirri played in two games this week, against St. Louis and Toronto, and he scored in both. The former was his first career NHL goal. Both of the goals came from the slot, and Pirri managed to find open ice against some of the league’s best defenders. His offensive play has been promising of late, and making an impact this early in his season is good news for ‘Hawks fans. If you’re looking for another jersey to add to your collection: try on a #37, it might be a fit.
Patrick Sharp had a strong game against Carolina, scoring a goal and adding the shootout winner to celebrate the birth of his daughter.
Mike Kostka added to his strong defensive play this week by scoring his first career NHL goal.
The Blackhawks are off to the state of Florida this week, as they take on the Florida Panthers and Tampa Bay Lightning before returning home to face the Minnesota Wild.
