Today the Chicago Blackhawks announced that Mike Kostka sustained a lower body injury at practice Tuesday. The defenseman will be out four to six weeks according to multiple sources. Kostka enters his second season in the NHL and his first season with the Blackhawks.

Coach Quenneville declared that before the season started that he would be keeping eight defenseman. Kostka would make the Blackhawks as the eighth defense. Kostka has been used very sparingly this season. Kostka stat line on the season is two games played, one goal and two penalty minutes. Kostka’s lone goal was the game winner against his former team the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Blackhawks have not announced a move to replace Kostka on the roster. My bet would be on Jimmy Hayes being recalled from Rockford for the time being. Although the Blackhawks could call up Jeremy Morin. Morin who was cut during camp has been posting pretty good numbers at Rockford. He has three goals and four assists in seven games this season.

Expect Michal Rozsival and Sheldon Brookbank to continue to split time on the back end of the defenisve rotation.

Who do you think the Blackhawks will call up in Kostka spot? Please post your thoughts in the comment section.
