The first day after the Cup parade, everyone’s thoughts on the 2013-2014 season was focused on pretty much one thing, Who will be the 2nd line center. There was the short-lived Brandon Saad experiment, but most Blackhawks fans thoughts were on the reigning AHL scoring leader Brandon Pirri as the next player to get a crack at the position that has been seemingly vacant for years.
Sadly, for Pirri he was injured the second day of training camp, and didn’t see any action until the very end of the pre-season schedule. Pirri played well but it was too little too late and he was sent off to Rockford. After a week there, he got the call back to the big leagues, but when he’s played it’s been on the line with Brandon Bollig which doesn’t really show off your offensive skills even though he’s still scored 2 goals and 1 assist with a +2 rating.
For some reason the coaching staff has been disillusioned with thoughts that Michal Handzus is a better fit because he’s more defensively responsible. Well with Handzus banged up Pirri gets his shot tonight after one game of Marcus Kruger centering the 2nd line.
Pirri’s chance is a golden one for this season so as much as most fans have hoped for this to happen, it’s up to Pirri to show that he’s been worth all the fuss. Pirri had this to say about tonight’s opportunity.
You have to like the attitude and hopefully the offense clicks tonight with Pirri in the middle of two offensive weapons in the Twin Cities!
How excited are you about Pirri’s shot? It seems Andrew Shaw gave his seal of approval!
