Friday, November 1 @ Milwaukee Admirals
The Rockford IceHogs faced their bitter rival Admirals for the first meeting of 11 this season. Kent Simpson got the start after battery-mate Antti Raanta served the duties for the last week. The Admirals and ‘Hogs traded goals early, before Milwaukee pulled away with two unanswered markers. Alex Broadhurst brought Rockford within one with 14 minutes left in the game, but that’s as close as they would come. Milwaukee added another goal, and the Admirals took this one by a score of 4-2. Mark McNeill earned the Third Star nomination with a goal and 5 shots. Simpson made 34 out of 37 saves in the losing effort. The penalty box was busy in this one, with 13 minor penalties called.
Sunday, November 3, vs. Grand Rapids Griffins
Rockford was back at home to close off the weekend, playing host to a Grand Rapids team that had already beat them once this year. Scoring didn’t pick up until the second period, when two Griffins goals 4 minutes apart put the game away. Klas Dahlbeck scored his fourth of the season, but Landon Ferraro of the Griffins re-gained the two goal lead with 2 minutes left, ending the Piggies’ chances. Antti Raanta picked up his third loss of the season, but made 31 saves, earning himself the Thrd Star nomination.
Wednesday, November 6, @ Grand Rapids Griffins
The ‘Hogs didn’t have many days off before they faced the Griffins again, this time back in Grand Rapids. Things didn’t start off well, with two Grand Rapids goals early. Adam Clendening put one on the board at the start of the second period, but the game wasn’t looking any better. Gustav Nyquist struck again for the Griffins, ending Antti Raanta’s night. Raanta allowed 4 goals on 20 shots. Kent Simpson didn’t fare any better, as the Griffins scored three more before the second period was out. Brad Winchester picked up the second IceHogs goal with 11 minutes left, and the Griffins finished off the sweep with a 6-2 win.
