It was a scary scene on Sunday. Edmonton Oiler’s winger David Perron fired a shot into the ‘Hawks bench that took Michal Rozsival right out of his seat. After the game, it was reported that Rozsival’s face looked similar to a stitched up tire that had just gone flat. And guess what? Roszival expects to be back on the ice this Thursday when the Blackhawks take on Phoenix Coyotes. Roszival is lucky that the puck didn’t strike him in another area of his head, but I am pretty sure if i took a shot like that, I’d ask for a leave of absence and two weeks paid vacation.

Considering the ‘Hawks haven’t played a game since that Sunday thriller with the Oilers, it became easy to honor a man who took the biggest shot of the night while sitting on the bench. Roszival was having a very strong game up until that point and is playing at the level most expected him to this season. I am sure his appearance alone Thursday night will energize some players and if he gets limited minutes, we may see more of Blackhawk Up favorite Sheldon Brookbank. Another point about Roszival is look at his player profile picture and tell me shouldn’t be up for this award week after week.

On the other side of Gritty player news, the “Hawks signed Andrew Shaw to a two-year extension. Shaw has been a candidate for Gritty POTW since the start of the season and there is no reason to think he won’t grab a few more honors in this section before him and his teammates are lifting the Stanley Cup again next June…

Winner Count:

Andrew Shaw – 1

Niklas Hjalmarsson – 1

Brandon Bollig -1

Sheldon Brookbank – 1
