The Chicago Blackhawks are nearing the end of the circus trip. Their second to last stop was in Dallas tonight. The Blackhawks coming in off an impressive come from behind win against the Calgary Flames. The Dallas Stars come in off a big win against the Anaheim Ducks in which they scored six goals. Tonight’s game was dominated by the Dallas Stars for 40 minutes until the Blackhawks managed to come alive in the third period.
Here comes the period breakdown:
1st Period: The first period was dominated by the Dallas Stars. The Stars would get their lone goal of the game. Corey Crawford would make his only mistake of the game. He would miss play the puck behind the net, Shawn Horcoff would send a pass over to Rich Peverly for the lone goal of the game. Kari Lehtonen was very good for the Stars not allowing a goal. Dallas would lead 1-0 after one.
2nd Period: The Stars would continue their domination of the game. The Blackhawks would commit costly turnovers in their zone on resulting in Dallas shots. Duncan Keith would commit a costly turnover in his own zone. Brent Seabrook would be called for hooking on Alex Chiasson after the Keith turnover. Crawford would deny Chiasson in his penalty shot attempt. Dallas would lead 1-0 after two periods.
3rd period: The third period would see an energized Blackhawks team tie the game at one. Duncan Keith would put a shot on net and Patrick Sharp would redirect the Keith shot for his 10th goal of the season. Keith would net his 21st assist on the year. This would be the lone regulation goal allowed by Kari Lehtonen. Lehtonen was also very good in this game. The Stars and Blackhawks would trade rushes, but none would result in a goal. The game would remain tied at one.
Overtime: In the overtime Kane would have a great scoring chance early on, but he would come up empty. The Blackhawks and Stars goalies would put on show through three periods and the overtime. Lehtonen stave off an early Blackhawks rush. Crawford would deny two great chances with four seconds left in the overtime. The game would move to the shootout.
Shootout: The shootout would be another display of impressive goal tending by both Crawford and Lehtonen. The shootout would go eleven rounds. The Blackhawks would edge the Stars 2-1 in the shootout. Patrick Sharp would score the first goal for the Blackhawks. Rich Peverley would tie the shootout at 1. In the eleventh round, Ben Smith would blast the game winner past Lehtonen. Blackhawks win 3-1.
