If you told the average Blackhawks fan at training camp that Antti Raanta would be starting in goal for Chicago by December, they would ask if you were joking. They might have even asked who he was. However, Raanta is indeed the Blackhawks’ starter for now, as Corey Crawford was taken out with a groin injury last week. Raanta has got his NHL career off to a 6-1-1 start, and has put up great numbers, with a .915% save percentage, and a 2.41 GAA in 9 appearances this year. What is even more impressive about Raanta’s play is that he has done it all in his first season of professional hockey, with only 16 games of AHL experience under his belt. Raanta will have to continue to hold the fort down for the next few weeks, as Crawford is not expected to be back before the New Year.
