19. The Philadelphia Flyers 20-17-4: The Flyers have clawed their way into the playoff hunt despite the slow start. They are 7-2-1 in their last ten games. Claude Giroux has 11 goals and 26 assists on the season.

18: Ottawa Senators 19-18-7: The Senators have been good as of late, they won four in a row. They are 6-3-1 in their last ten games. That should be the story around the Senators however, the story is Bobby Ryan. Bobby Ryan was NOT selected to team USA. That is only part of the story.  USA team director and Calgary President Brian Burke said this about Ryan: “He is not intense. That word is not in his vocabulary. It’s never going to be in his vocabulary. He can’t spell intense”. Courtesy of . Ryan fired back calling Burke “Gutless”.

17. Detroit Red wings 18-14-10: The Red Wings played the Toronto Maple Leafs in the Winter Classic this year. It was a great game with the Wings falling to the Leafs in a shootout. Jimmy Howard was selected to Team USA after the Winter Classic. The Wings did get some bad news, Pavel Datsyuk sat out Saturday’s game with a lower body injury. No word on how long he will be out.

16. Toronto Maple Leafs 21-17-5 The Leafs had a great week. On New Year’s Day, The Leafs defeated the Red Wings in a great Winter Classic game at the Big House. After the game, James van Riemsdyk was selected to Team USA. Earlier in the week, the Leafs signed Captain Dion Phaneuf to a seven year 49 million dollar contract. One thing that stood out for everyone to see, if that Leafs give up way too many shots on goal!

15. The Dallas Stars 20-13-7: The Stars have been playing well as of late, they are 6-2-2 in their last ten games. Erik Cole who started this season slowly has come on late. He had eight goals in the month of December, tying Tyler Seguin for most stars goals in the month.  If people want to watch the Stars future, prospect Esa Lindell will play for Finland in the WJC final on Sunday January 5th.
