19. Washington Capitals 22-18-9: The Capitals have fallen on hard times lately. They have lost four in a row. Their recent struggles can be blamed on their defense. They are lacking depth on defense and do not have a number one goal tender. Philipp Grubauer appears to their starting goalie for now.

18. Detroit Red wings 21-17-10: Jimmy Howard had been the spotlight for the Red Wings recently. On the January 16th, Howard and Henrik Lungqvist faced off in an epic Red Wings Rangers game. The Rangers would get the best of the Wings 1-0.  On the 18th Howard faced off against Jonathan Quick. Quick took exception to Howard’s treatment of some Kinds forwards. Quick shoved Howard during a TV timeout.  They both can’t wait to be teammates on the Olynpic Hockey team.

17. Columbus Blue Jackets 24-20-4: The Blue Jackets have won SIX in a row! The six wins in a row are a club record. Nathan Horton has 2 goals and 3 assists in his 8 games this season. Horton has helped invigorate the Blue Jackets recently. Sergei Bobrovsky is healthy which is also giving the Blue Jackets a midseason boast.

16. The Philadelphia Flyers 25-19-5: It seems like every year the Flyers are signing a new goalie to a new contract. This year it is Steve Mason. Steve Mason signed a three year 12.3 million dollar contract extension this past week.  Mason, who won the Calder trophy in 2008-09 with Columbus, is having his best season. Mason is 19-11-15 with a .917 save percentage. Don’t look now but the Flyers are second in the Metropolitan division!

15.  NY Rangers 26-21-3: The Rangers have strung together four wins a row. The reason for the winning streak is the KING!  The King is back!  Henrik Lundqvist has been on fire. He outdueled Jimmy Howard and the Red Wings in one the best goalie performances of the season. Rich Nash and Brad Richards also seem to be heating up for the Rangers.
