On Tuesday, 1/28/2014 the Blackhawks announced that they were recalling Brandon Pirri from Rockford. Pirri has been up with the Blackhawks earlier this season.  He last played for the Blackhawks on December 7th. Pirri had recorded 6 goals and 5 assists in his previous stint with the Blackhawks.  In Rockford this season, Pirri has played in 16 games and recorded 4 goals and 9 assists. Pirri was also named to the AHL all-star game.

Pirri was sent down originally because the coaching staff felt that his defensive game needed to improve. The Pirri recall was not based on defensive improvement but on the Blackhawks offensive struggles. Pirri in his AHL career has been known as a point producer. Pirri had 174 points with 57 goals and 117 assists.

In last night’s game  Pirri centered the second line with Patrick Kane and Kris Versteeg. Kane netted his second goal in two games and extended his point streak to eight games.  Pirri stat line was line was zero goals, zero assists, a zero rating, and one hit. Pirri played 15:05 minutes and for 21 shifts.  In my mind, Pirri did not have an impact in last night game. The Blackhawks are looking for more offensive production for him. Hopefully Pirri can give the Blackhawks consistent production at the second line center position and get Versteeg going.

I pose the question to you:

The Blackhawks and Pirri take on the Vancouver Canucks on Wednesday at 9:30pm CST.
