If there was a silver lining in this season for Brandon Pirri, it’s the fact that he was selected to the AHL All-Star game that will be played tonight. Pirri has fought injuries twice already this season, the first injury cost him a roster spot on the Blackhawks to start the season, and the second one cost him a possible return the Hawks quicker than he did. Pirri has seemed to be snake bitten by injuries and also inflicted with Coach Q dislike which is probably worse that the injuries.
Pirri meshed well with Patrick Kane but he couldn’t show the coaching staff enough both ways hockey to stay in Chicago full-time so he continued to find himself playing for the Rockford Ice Hogs. Pirri was the AHL scoring champion last season, but this season with him splitting time between Rockford and Chicago has only appeared in 18 games scoring 5 goals and 10 assists so it’s pretty safe to say his selection is based on last years dominance in the AHL. Pirri was the only player from Rockford to make the All-star game this season.
The AHL All-Star team will play Farjestad PK from Sweden instead of two AHL All-Star teams facing off. This should make for an exciting matchup with maybe a slow start to the game as the teams feel each other out.
