The Blackhawks and Penguins will square off in the final Stadium Series game of the NHL season. This will be the first every hockey game at Soldier field. It will also be the first ever time Jonathan Toews and Sidney Crosby will square off against each other. Toews and Crosby friendship and mutual respect has been played up in the media recently.
With the Penguins coming to town and all the love in the air, I thought about three reasons why not to like them. Here are my three reasons to dislike the Penguins:
- The “Penguins” are a weak name-Pittsburgh is known as the Steel City. Pittsburgh became known for their toughness with Mean Joe Green playing for the Steelers, Iron Mike Ditka playing at Pitt, and great hockey tough guys in Rick Tocchet, Matthew Barnaby, and Gary Roberts. When you hear those names, you think toughness, so the Penguins name does not fit. In the Dutch language Penguin is actually means fat goose. The Fat goose is not scaring anyone. Pittsburgh used to have a hockey team called the “pirates” from 1925 to 1930. When the NHL came back to Pittsburgh, the pirates were already taken.
- Pierre McGuire’s Obsession with Sidney Crosby- McGuire’s obsessions with Crosby is at a sickening level. McGuire’s could mention Crosby’s great play making ability in game featuring Calgary and Carolina.
- The Penguins had/have a wealth of Talented players- The Penguins have been blessed with great players such as Mario Lemieux, Jaromir Jagr, Ron Francis, Paul Coffey in their franchise history. Lemieux is one of the all time greats and could have been one of the best ever. Everyone knows that Lemieux career was derailed by health issues. Jagr started his career in Pittsburgh and is still progressing up the All-Time leader board. Now they are blessed with Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin. Crosby could be in the class with Gretzky when his career is over. Malkin would be the best player on ALMOST any other team in the NHL, but he is second fiddle to Crosby on Pens. The Penguins also have three Stanley Cups in their franchise history, they didn’t win those without talent.
Honorable mention: The Penguins beat the Blackhawks in 1992 Stanley Cup Finals. That is a good enough reason to dislike the Penguins. Chicago could have had a NBA championship and NHL championships in the same year.
Those are my reasons to dislike the Penguins, if you agree or disagree feel free to comment below.
