Colorado Avalanche: Losers

Additions: Goaltender Reto Berra

Subtractions: 2014 2nd round draft pick

Not much, and it’s hard to really understand what this move does, for the Avalanche, who are already more than solidified at the goaltender, position, with Semyon Varlamov having a fantastic season, and backup Jean-Sebastien Giguere having a solid season and providing a good veteran presence.

Although the Avs really didn’t need to make a big splash, at the deadline, they are labeled “losers” due to the high price they paid, for Berra.  A 2nd round pick is always a valuable pick, and it seems odd that they would give one up for seemingly unnecessary goaltending depth.

This move doesn’t make Colorado a worse team, in the near-term, which is what they are clearly focused on, this season.  This trade just doesn’t seem to make a whole lot of sense.
