10. Montreal Candiens  35-24-7: The Candiens went into the deadline looking to make a splash, mission accomplished. The Candiens got Thomas Vanek from the Islanders for next to nothing.  After getting Vanek, the Candiens went out and got a stay at home defenseman in Mike Weaver and an insurance policy goalie in Devan Dubnyk.

Trade Deadline Winner

9. Toronto Maple Leafs 34-23-6: The Leafs have a terrible defense and they have an excess at forward, what did they do at the deadline? NOTHING!!! The Leafs who have been rumored to move several players: Nazem Kadri, Dave Bolland, and Nikolai Kulemin. They did nothing and lost out this trade deadline.

Trade Deadline LOSER.

8. Tampa Bay Lightning 34-24-6: Steve Yzerman put the Lightning in a bad position. He bruised the EGO of Martin St. Louis. St. Louis wanted out and only wanted to play for the Rangers. Considering that was the case, Yzerman did a great job getting the best value for St. Louis. They got Callahan and high draft picks from the Rangers. The conditional second round pick could be a first rounder if they sign Callahan. St. Louis might have hurt the present but the future looks pretty good.

Trade Deadline Winner

7.  Colorado Avalanche 41-18-5: The Avs are clinging to “If ain’t broke don’t fix it” philosophy this trade deadline. The Avs did not add a veteran forward, instead they added Reto Berra from the Flames. Berra is an insurance policy for Jean-Sebastien Giguere. Giguere has been dealing with a bad back. Maybe they didn’t need to do much, they trounced the Blackhawks after the deadline.

Trade Deadline LOSER.

6.  Chicago Blackhawks 37-13-4: The Blackhawks felt that they didn’t need to improve their roster, so they did very little at the deadline. They acquired David Rundblad and Mathieu Brisebois from the Coyotes for picks and they traded Brandon Pirri for picks. The Blackhawks should have added a second line center.

Trade Deadline LOSER.
