Game Recaps

Friday, March 7th @ Milwaukee Admirals

The IceHogs and Admirals kicked off the second-last home-and-home series between the Division rivals this season in Wisconsin. The Admirals had the game all but won by the half-way point, jumping out to a 4-0 lead in the first 30 minutes, with three power-play goals. Goals from Garret Ross, Brandon Mashinter, and Brian Connelly weren’t enough to lead the comeback, as the IceHogs surrendered four more goals, and lost 8-3. Kent Simpson was shelled with 35 shots, and allowed eight goals. Adam Clendening was a -3 despite having two assists on the night. The IceHogs allowed eight goals for the first time this season.

Saturday, March 8th vs. Milwaukee Admirals

The IceHogs picked themselves up and were back at the BMO Harris Bank Center the next night, trying to find some revenge against the Admirals. The ‘Hogs and Admirals traded goals early, and were tied 2-2 until late in the second period where Milwaukee scored two goals in less than a minute. The Admirals added two more in the third, including an empty-netter, and won the game 6-4. Rockford never held a lead in the home-and-home series. Jason LaBarbera made 27 saves on 32 shots in only his fourth loss in last 14 games. Pierre-Marc Bouchard was the game’s Third Star with a goal and a -1 rating.

Standings Update:

The IceHogs didn’t earn a point in Week 21, and were passed by the Rochester Americans. The IceHogs are also the only team in the Western Conference with 62 games played, and only play once in Week 22 to even the playing field.
