Brandon Saad was injured in the first period of the Chicago Blackhawks win against the Detroit Red Wings with most people assuming it happened when he took a big hit from Niklas Kronwall.

Saad didn’t return to the game on Sunday night and after the game Coach Q said that Saad’s injury didn’t look to bad which usually means less than a week of games being missed.  He was supposed to be re-evaluated today, and although there haven’t been any updates to his eval the news has been announced that Saad will not be taking the trip to Philadelphia for the Blackhawks contest tomorrow night at Wells Fargo Center.

Saad is having a very good second season that many Blackhawks fans thought should have earned him an Olympic roster spot for Team USA.  For the season Saad has scored 19 goals 25 assists and he’s in the Top 5 in the NHL for +/- with a +29.

Saad has been the jack of all Lines master of none so far this season playing on all of the top 3 lines and being able to succeed on all 3 of those lines which makes him as valuable as it sounds. Saad will be missed when the Hawks face off in Philly, luckily Marian Hossa came back on Sunday night and only scored a goal and 2 assists as a Welcome back to Hawks fans!
