The Blackhawks returned to Boston for the first time since defeating them in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals last season. The Blackhawks were coming in off a win against the Dallas Stars 4-2, but had suffered the loss of Patrick Kane. The Blackhawks are 5-4-1 in their last ten games.

Meanwhile the Bruins have been the hottest team in hockey. The Bruins are 9-0-1 in their last ten games and currently lead the NHL in points at 106. This was the second meeting between the Blackhawks and Bruins. The first meeting was won by the Blackhawks in a shootout.

The second meeting between the Bruins and Blackhawks resembled Game 3 of the Stanley cup Finals last season. The Bruins won that game 2-0, tonight was a similar story. The Bruins defeated the Blackhawks 3-0.

Here is the period recap:

1st period: The Blackhawks had some juice in that first period. Brandon Saad and Patrick Sharp used their speed to get some great offensive rushes; however, Tuukka Rask was up to challenge.  The Blackhawks would only put eight shots on goal. The Bruins would only put 10 shots on goal but one shot found its mark. At 11:50 gone by in the first period, Patrice Bergeron deflected a Matt Bartkowski shot for the game’s first goal.  The first ended with the Blackhawks trailing 1-0.

2nd period: This second period might have been one of the worst period the Blackhawks played all season. The Bruins dominated the puck possession and neutralized the Blackhawks speed. It was a slow moving period with not many shots by either team. The Blackhawks mustered just nine shots and Rask turned away all of them. While Crawford faced six shots and turned them all away. The score remained at 1-0 in favor of the Bruins but the Bruins clearly won this period.

3rd period: The Bruins put the Blackhawks away in the third period. The Blackhawks might have scored two goals in 17 seconds to win the Stanley cup, well the Bruins scored two goals in 13 seconds to win a regular season game. Carl Soderberg scored the Bruins second goal after 5:28 of third period play. Bergeron would net his second goal of the game just 13 seconds later.

The Blackhawks fall to the Bruins 3-0.
