The hit heard around Chicago was provided by Brooks Oprik on the Captain Jonathan Toews in the middle of the second period. Plenty of chatter on whether the hit was legal, if Oprik is a dirty player, and should have someone anyone on the Hawks retaliated.

Of course none of this matters when the Captain of your franchise skates off the ice in the middle of the second period and doesn’t return to the game.  The Blackhawks fans were looking for an announcement of any kind from Coach Quenneville after the Blackahwks loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The sort of good news was handed out from Joel Quenneville with these quotes via Twitter.

All of this sounds a lot more encouraging than what it looked liked when Toews headed to the locker room after the jarring hit. Lately when Quenneville has said not to serious it has been about a 5 game injury both Marian Hossa’s injury and Bryan Bickell’s current injury.  Either way whether it’s a few or up to the final game of the season as long as 19 & 88 are ready for the playoffs when they begin all Blackhawks fans will feel very fortunate since it looked ugly when he left the ice.

The Current Toews update is day to day with an upper body injury.

Did we escape a real bad news? It would appear so.
