The Notre Dame Fighting Irish didn’t make it to the Frozen Four in Philadelphia and now the Hawks prospect has signed a 2 year contract with the Chicago Blackhawks.  As much as people have talked about the offensive wizardry of Teuvo Teravainen and the promise of the future 2nd line center in Blackhawks history.  Well, Stephen Johns has been propped up all year long as the future of Blackhawks defenseman.

Johns was drafted by the Blackhawks in the 2nd round  of the 2010 draft and chose to go to college for four years at Notre Dame. Johns is a big old school defensive presence and was the leading scoring defenseman on Notre Dame this season with 8 goals and 12 assists.

Johns more than likely will be on the opening day roster when the 2014-2015 kicks off next October which means that a change could be in stored come this off-season with many people believing that Johnny Oduya could be  draft day trade bait.

The Blackhawks future seems to be coming together right before our eyes with Teuvo playing in Chicago and Johns having now signed his contract with the Blackhawks. The Blackhawks core will just keep getting younger and entering their prime by next season when the veteran presence of the team is Hossa, Sharp, and Keith instead of Handzus, Rozsival, and Brookbank.

What do you think of the Johns signing?
