During the final minutes of today’s game against the St. Louis Blues, Brent Seabrook put a huge hit on Blues David Backes. Backes was very shaken up after the play. Although Seabrook did not leave his feet fully during the hit, the blow was made to Backes’ head. Seabrook was ejected, and may have to take a few more games off. He is facing a suspension from the NHL. This hit is the type of hit that the league is trying to get rid of. Because Brent has never been suspended before, he will most likely only get suspended one or two games. Backes may be out for even more games than Seabrook. Blues coach Ken Hitchcock said his condition is “not good”.
Update: The league offered Seabrook a phone hearing, so that means the suspension will be four games or less.
