The Bickell, Toews, and Kane line really grabbed everyone’s attention during Games 4 and 5 of the Western Conference Final last year vs. the L.A. Kings. It seems like every time the Chicago Blackhawks get put in a tight position or are on a skid the answer is always to ignite a spark within the team using this trio of players. Joel Quenneville has even said it for himself stating, “Sometimes maybe we’re looking to ignite, one line can get going.” “We don’t really care who scores goals but if they can get hot or if they can get on the board offensively, that’s what we look for. They’re certainly capable of it.” Quote courtesy of Mark Lazerus from Chicago Sun-Times.
The Chicago Blackhawks were also in a similar situation last year during the Stanley Cup Finals vs. the Boston Bruins. After taking the 1st game of the series the Blackhawks lost back to back games during Game 2 and 3. Can you guess Joel Quenneville’s response? Yep, once again he took it back to the basics reuniting Bickell, Toews, and Kane where the Blackhawks won the next 3 straight games and emerged as the 2013 Stanley Cup Champions. My hunch is that history will repeat itself tonight and Coach Q will try to reignite this team with the pairing of the trio on home ice. That way they can gain the momentum going back to Excel Energy Center for Game 6.
