The New York Rangers and Montreal Canadiens face off this afternoon in Game #1 of the Eastern Conference finals. Both teams have some comparisons which start with knocking off the favorites to play in the Eastern Conference Finals (Boston Bruins and Pittsburgh Penguins) in Game #7’s on the road. Ironically every team in the Conference Semi-final round clinched their series on the road.

Both teams are led by their fantastic Backstops! Henrik Lundqvist leads the Blue Shirts in goal and he’s been great in the 2014 playoffs.  He’s really tough in Game #7’s which has been a real theme in this years playoffs.  The other story for the Rangers was how the team rallied around Martin St. Louis after the unexpected passing of his mother and the true emotion when St. Louis scored on Mother’s Day.  A huge question for the Rangers will be if they can actually score and will Rick Nash show up offensively this year in the playoffs.

The Canadiens are led by their goalie in Carey Price.  Price has not lost in an elimination game dating back to the Olympics and now he leads what seems like an entire Country to the Eastern Conference Finals.  The other star for Montreal has been P.K. Subban who was lethal all series long but especially on the powerplay.  Each goal scored in this series could possibly feel like the game winner with these two great goalies facing off.
