Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane Contract Extensions Are A Priority.

Rumors are running ramped about what the Blackhawks should do this offseason. The rumors range from trading Patrick Sharp to trading away Brent Seabrook for a legit second line center. Before the Blackhawks do anything, the priority this offseason is signing Jonathon Toews and Patrick Kane.

Both Toews and Kane are under contract for next season for the 2

014-2015 and unrestricted free agents afterwards. General Stan Bowman has been locking players in the Blackhawks core for the last several years. The final step in locking up the core is locking up Toews and Kane. Toews and Kane are the engines that drive the Blackhawks franchise. Players were high draft picks, both are clutch players, both are Conn Symthe winners, and both are Stanley Cup Champions. It would be stupid for Stan Bowman not to lock up both Toews and Kane. They changed the Blackhawks franchise from the “worst organization” in all of professional sports to a dynasty in the making.

The great thing about the situation is that both Toews and Kane want to sign with the Blackhawks. Toews stated “Who could think to be a better situation?” He’s right. His team nearly went back to the Stanley Cup Final and they are a two time Stanley Cup Champion with him as Captain. Kane stated “ I know that we both love it here in Chicago, and we love playing here and having a chance to win every year”.

General Manager Stan Bowman said, “It’s the highest priority for us looking at next year”. The issue isn’t if Toews and Kane will be back. The issue is how much will they get paid. My best guess would be somewhere between Alex Ovechkin’s 13 year 124 million dollar contract and Ryan Getzlaf 8 year 66 million dollar contract extension.
