7. Matt Niskanen Defenseman: Matt was originally a member of the Dallas Stars; he was traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2010-11. Niskanen played the best hockey of his career last season. He racked up 10 goals and 36 assists in 81 games. In the playoffs, He recorded 2 goals and 7 assists. According to the Hockey News, Niskanen “is an incredible athlete and superb skater.” He owns a lot of offensive ability. Now the negatives for Niskanen are that he needs to improve defensive consistency. He also does not have natural hockey sense. Hockey News states that Niskanen is a talented, yet inconsistent defenseman.
