The NHL is starting to mimic the NFL with stretching out announcements like the NHL schedule. The NHL released each teams home openers and since the Blackhawks open on the road we received both the opening night date and the Hawks home opener. This will be the first time since the 2012 season opener that the Blackhawks won’t be witnessing a Stanley Cup banner raising so it will just be a plain old opening night on the road.
The Blackhawks season kicks off in Dallas at American Airlines Arena on Thursday October 9th. The Central Division teams played some memorable games last season and Antoine Roussel tried his best to become the new villain of the newly formed division.
The Blackhawks home opener is two days later when the Buffalo Sabres their only appearance in Chicago at the United Center. Last year the Sabres had two captains on the team on their only visit to Chicago, but both players were long gone by the end of the season. The Sabres are in total rebuild mode so if by chance the Hawks fail to collect points in Big D they almost certainly will skate away with 2 points 2 nights later.
You do have to like the schedule makers sense of humor forcing the San Jose Sharks to watch the Kings banner raising on opening night after choking away a 3-0 series lead in the opening round. For every teams home opener click here.
What do you think of opening night in Dallas? The rest of the NHL schedule is to be released Sunday afternoon so you can check it out right before USA vs Portugal in the World Cup.
