In a surprise but not totally unpopular move, the Chicago Blackhawks have traded Brandon Bollig to the Calgary Flames, for the 83rd pick in the 2014 NHL Draft.

With the 83rd pick, the Hawks ended up selecting Matteson Iacopelli, a 20 year old forward out of the USHL.

With the 2014-2015 salary cap set at $69 million, and Bollig’s $1.25 million dollar cap hit now in Calgary’s books, the Hawks are now under the new $69 million dollar salary cap.

However, the Hawks only have 21 players on the roster.  There will likely be more moves coming.
