In a rather confusing acquisition on the second day of free agency, the Chicago Blackhawks have added defenseman Kyle Cumisky. Cumisky was a 7th round draft pick by the Colorado Avalanche in the 2005 Entry Draft.
It is a one year deal, but financial details have not yet become available. Cumisky has spent the last two years playing in Sweden for MODO Hockey. Last season, in 24 games for MODO he had 4 goals and 24 assists for 28 points in 45 games.
His last season in the NHL in 2010-11 with the Avs, he played 18 games with 1 goal and 7 assists for 8 points. His best season was a 20 point effort the year before in 61 games.
Cumisky will most likely start with the Rockford Icehogs of the AHL, and be an insurance defenseman for the Hawks.
With this move most likely putting the Blackhawks even more over the salary cap, a move is most likely going to be made soon.
