25. Carolina Hurricanes:

Significant Additions: Jay McClement, Brad Malone

Significant Losses: Manny Malhotra, Justin Peters, Joni Pitkanen, Mike Komisarek, Radek Dvorak

The Canes resigned Jared Staal and Michal Jordan. In terms of overall free agency the Canes did not do anything but lose players. The Canes were not a good team last year and could have used an upgrade or two this offseason.

24. Calgary Flames:

Significant Additions: Jonas Hiller, Mason Raymond, Deryk Engelland, Brandon Bollig

Significant losses: Mike Cammalleri, T.J. Galliardi, Paul Bryon, Shane O’Brien, Kevin Westgarth, Chris Butler, Ben Street, Blair Jones,

The Flames could not retain their guy in Cammalleri and replaced him with Raymond. Raymond is not as good as Cammalleri. They wasted a draft pick on a trade for Brandon Bollig. Jonas Hiller will be an upgrade in net for them, but their losses outweigh their gain. The Flames will be bad again.

23. New York Rangers:

Significant Additions: Dan Boyle, Tanner Glass, Mike Kostka

Significant Losses: Anton Stralman, Beniot Pouliot, Brad Richards, Brian Boyle, Raphel Diaz, Dan Carcillo.

The Rangers have lost some significant pieces to their Stanley Cup team. They have not made up for any of those losses. Adding Dan Boyle was a good move but doesn’t make up for their losses.

22. Detroit Red Wings:

Significant Additions: Kevin Porter

Significant Losses: Daniel Alfredsson, David Legwand, Todd Bertuzzi, Mikael Samuelsson, Dan Cleary

The Red Wings used to a destination in free agency where players went because they wanted to win. Now players seem to be shying away from Detroit. The Red Wings did have several young players emerge last year but still needed to do more in free agency.

21. Colorado Avalanche:

Significant Additions: Jarome Iginla, Daniel Briere, Brad Stuart, Jesse Winchester, Ben Street, Zach Redmond

Significant Losses: Paul Stastny, P-A Parenteau, Andre Benoit, Jean-Sebastien Giguere, Cory Sarich, Brad Malone

The Avalanche was the surprise of the NHL last season. They played so well that Patrick Roy won the coach of the year award. This offseason might be damaging to their Stanley Cup aspirations. They replaced Paul Stastny with Jarome Iginla which is a downgrade in my mind. They added Briere and I say WHY??? The Avalanche lost more than they gained.
