5. Montreal Canadiens:

Significant Additions: Tom Gilbert, P-A Parenteau, Manny Malhorta, Jiri Sekac

Significant Losses: Brian Gionta, Josh Gorges, Thomas Vanek, Daniel Briere, Francis Bouillon, Douglas Murray, Ryan White, George Parros

Gilbert might be one of the biggest steals of free agency. He played top pairing minutes last year with the Canadiens. Getting Malhotra to sign a one year deal is also an underrated move. They also stole Parenteau away from Colorado. It was a sneaky good offseason for the Habs.

4. Chicago Blackhawks:

Significant Additions: Brad Richards, Peter Regin

Significant Losses: Michal Handzus, Pierre-Marc Bouchard, Sheldon Brookbank

Brad Richards was a huge signing for the Blackhawks. It gives the Blackhawks a stop gap center that can play with Patrick Kane. Richards also gives Teuvo Teravainen time to depth in Rockford or on the fourth line in the NHL.

3. Tampa Bay Lightning:

Significant Additions: Anton Stralman, Brian Boyle, Evgeni Nabokov, Ryan Callahan, Jason Garrison

Significant Losses: Sami Salo, Tom Pyatt, Mike Kostka, Keith Aulie, Andres Lindback

Steve Yzerman locked up Stralman to give them a great defensive pairing in front of Ben Bishop. He added Jason Garrison via trade earlier. They also added Nabokov to back up Bishop. Callahan is a natural born leader who will help with more than just his place on the ice.

2. New Jersey Devils:

Significant Additions: Mike Cammalleri, Martin Havlat, Scott Clemmensen

Significant Losses: Mark Fayne, Martin Brodeur, Anton Volchenkov, Ryan Carter, Stephen Gionta.

The Devils are now free of playing Brodeur which helps the team. They also made an under the radar move by signing Havlat. If Havlat can stay healthy, he will be a significant upgrade for the Devils. Cammalleri might have been overpaid a little bit.

1. Dallas Stars:

Significant Additions: Jason Spezza, Ales Hemsky, Patrick Eaves, Anders Lindback

Significant Losses: Alex Chiasson, Ray Whitney, Tim Thomas, Aaron Rome

The Stars have turned around their franchise in two years. They added Tyler Seguin last offseason. This offseason they added Jason Spezza to compliment Seguin, Jamie Benn, and others. Signing Ales Hemsky to a moderate three deal was also a nice move. The Stars will be a force in the Western Conference and a real threat in the Central Division.
